Feedback on Homework?
We have recently made changes on the amount of homework given out and the variety of the subjects covered. Your comments would be greatly appreciated on this so that we can improve and tailor the service taking into account the different levels of expectation for the key stages.

Thank you to every one who responded to our homework survey. The feedback was very useful. A really strong message was that parents and children really like Education City but are not keen on holiday homework.
92% of parents felt that their child received the right amount of homework, 4% felt their was too much and 4% too little.
81% of parents felt the level of challenge was set at the right level and 19% felt it was too easy.
72% of parents felt teachers regularly responded to their child's homework.
We will be addressing particular issues identified.
I struggled to get my son to do his reading homework over the holidays as even though a date was set by which it had to be done he believed that the other children wouldn't all have done it so they would be given more time. I don't believe this is the correct message to be giving to our children as a deadline is a deadline. His words were true though as to date some children have still not finished the book and no work has been done on the text within class. What can be put in place within school to prevent this happening again?
Thank you for raising this, it is an issue we obviously need to consider. The message from the majority of parents who responded to the homework survey was that holidays are a difficult time to get children to do homework and they would prefer this time to be for rest and relaxation. So, with the exception of year 6 just prior to SATs, we will avoid setting homework during the holidays. We need to reinforce the message, however, that homework is expected to be completed by the set deadline especially where follow up work in class is related to it. One suggestion is a reminder to parents on a standard slip home when a deadline has been missed. What do other parents think?
